Major Course Improvements
GLGC IRRIGATION PROJECT
The irrigation project is complete,
The work commenced on 7 May 2014 following completion of the 2014 Australian Women’s Interstate Teams Matches that Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club was hosting and was completed on the approved completion date of 3 October 2014 after 3 days extension were approved for adverse weather. The course had 18 holes available every Sunday and Public Holiday with 17 holes available on weekdays and Saturdays (there were 5 Saturdays when all 18 holes were available).
The entire irrigation system was replaced by a new design that features increased diameter main lines, high pressure Toro sprinklers and a state of the art control system. The fairway sprinklers are designed for a radius of 25 metres compared to the 18 metres of the former system (at optimum performance).
The Toro control system has features that include remote operation and selective area watering and timing. The contract also included replacement of the water pump system.
Excess rock and soil was used to construct 16 short course tees, a new range tee, upgrading of two access roads and to reduce a WHS hazard adjacent to the 6th green. This was undertaken by WaterLand at no additional cost. The short course will be rated by a Golf NSW accredited official, and will be available for handicap purposes. The short course should have particular appeal to beginners, juniors, mature golfers and social golfers. The women’s tee has been enlarged and extended forward on the 11th, 16th and 17th holes.
